Surfing

Wijk aan Zee is known for being one of the best surfing spots of the Netherlands, just next to the North pier the waves are at their best. As of April there are plenty of surfing and kite lessons by certified instructors on this location as well. Beach pavilion Timboektoe opened up in 1997 on this best surfing spot of the Netherlands.

Route

From Amsterdam:
A9 in the direction of Alkmaar, exit Beverwijk-Centre, follow signs Wijk aan Zee. In the village turn left directly after the large village meadow, follow the road and drive over the range of dunes. This road runs along unusual buildings of the Blast furnaces (Hoogovens) and after a couple of hundred meters you will find a small car park. If you keep on following the road you will reach the car park of the North pier. There you can park the car and continue a small distance by foot.
