Fishing
The North pier: a nice fishing spot.
Anglers from all over the country come
to the North pier. At the beginning of
the North pier, just across the
restaurant you can do some good sea bass
fishing. In stormy weather there is a
good catch of fish on the inner side.
During competitions that have to be held
at the restaurant because of the storm,
some nice
codlings and firm
flounders are sometimes caught. With low
tide the chance to lose leaders is
sometimes big. On the pier there is not
really one super spot with fish. One
moment there is a good catch across the
corner, the other moment there is not,
whilst the catch is then good at the
fence.
You can always catch some codling. The
catch of dab is moderate at the moment;
the first soles start to show up at the
end of May. When the sole fishers
arrive, then also the sea brass fishers
show up armed with a plug fishing rod,
floats and jig heads.
Is the fishing bad from the beach
because of the cold weather, then some
fish can be caught on the pier in the
deeper water.
Now here are some
pier hints; Use a fishing rod
support; never place your fishing rod on
the blocks, because the chance your line
will break will then become a lot
bigger. Avoid the pier with stormy
weather, because it can be perilous
because of breaking waves.
Use enough lead (150 - 180 grams)
especially beyond the corner; there the
current can sometimes be heavy. Look,
when choosing your spot and especially
when fishing codling, if you can climb
down easily, because it might happen a
fish falls off the hook and end up
between the blocks (only do that with
good weather and under supervision,
because the blocks can be slippery).
Hook measures that can be used for
codfish and sea brass are 1,0 through
4,0 and for the other fish 6 through 2.
Types of fish:
Sole, codfish, gurnard, dab, flounder,
garfish, sea brass, eel pout, eel,
whiting, plaice, pout, sea trout,
pollack, twaite, mackerel, and mullet.
Various types you will only catch in
summer, but a surprise is not
impossible. For example, it is well
possible to catch a fat sole in the
middle of November and the sea brass is
staying ever longer as well.
